dollyllama > July 1st, 2008: Let's see, it's dusk, I am too far away from my subject, my long lens is limited to 5.6 and there are 7 cats either chasing my subject or putting their fluffy tails in front of the lens. Yep, sounds about right to take a picture of a freaking bird so fast it gives bees whiplash. Ah well, maybe when I can try it during actual daylight it'll be better.
dollyllama > This is a red spotted eft. It's the third one I found in my garden, never saw any last year. Nearly stepped on him on the way to photograph a day lily. He is the smallest one I've seen so far, measuring all of about 2 inches. This photo is as shot, no post processing whatsoever, that's some color he's got!
dollyllama > So this is a day lily (for those of you who don't have them growing wild in your yard) they're everywhere here. They are considered a weed here...how one can consider a lily a weed is beyond me, but...there it is. Only cropping and border added, everything else is as shot.
dollyllama > Double Gerbera(?) daisy, on loan from Jimmy Walker's Greenhouse (actually I'm doing a "commissioned" work of the double daisies that he seems to have in abundance). I'd never seen one before and he has about 6 or seven plants with doubles.
dollyllama > This is a huge (about 9" across) dried up mushroom top. I liked the texture and patterns in it.

dollyllama > This morning I found this really cool moth floating in some water so I took some pics.* But after at least 2 years of faithful service my cf card stopped being recognized by my computer (the pics are there, I just can't get to them). So, not knowing that until late in the day I had to reshoot today's entry. I found a wild strawberry in my yard.

*The moth lived.
dollyllama > This is a straw flower, I wish it was a better shot of it. (I felt rushed today). It was really strange and beautiful. In fact there was another almost completely different colored flower on the same plant and my capture of that was even more disappointing, though maybe I'll add it as a bonus if I can work it a bit better.
dollyllama > Day 8 bonus, the other strawflower growing on the same plant. These weird flowers have a dry, crispy feel, not soft and pliable like most petals. Thus, the name I guess.
